Facial or body hair in excess of the cultural norm can be very distressing to some patients. At Faceworks Clinic we are able to help you overcome this problem using the best procedure with Palomar StarLux® System. The Palomar StarLux® System has been proven in clinical studies to perform as good or better than the single procedure “gold standard” lasers in permanent hair reduction. The unique flexibility of the Palomar Starlux System is achieved through the use of specialized detachable handpieces – LuxR, LuxV, LuxG. |
PULSED LIGHT: HOW DOES IT WORK?

Pulses of filtered light are directed onto the skin and absorbed by the hair follicles. Pulsed light systems are similar to lasers, but with a larger, smooth beam, and a long pulse for safe, fast, and comfortable treatments.
The LuxR safely and effectively removes hair on all skin types, from the fairest to the darkest, including tanned skin. Its large spot size allows you to quickly cover big areas like the back, legs, and chest.
The common areas treated include the axilla, bikini line, legs, and face in women, and the chest, back, shoulder, neck, and ears in men.
Generally, the average number of hair removal treatments to achieve a significant reduction of excess hair is between five and seven treatments performed at 1 to 3 months intervals. Clinical improvement includes absolute hair number reduction, finer, lighter regrowing hair, and slower growth.
Anagen Phase
Anagen is the active phase of hair growth and generally lasts for several months. This is the best phase for the Pulsed Light Systems to disable new hair as it grows.
Catagen Phase
During this brief phase, the hair bulb regresses and begins to shrink.
Telogen Phase
At the end of this resting phase, which typically lasts a few months, hair is released from the shriveled follicles and the anagen phase begins again.
HAIR GROWTH CYCLES
Pulsed light treatments are most effective on hair in the anagen phase. Multiple treatments may be necessary for permanent removal of hair.

Palomar Pulsed Light Systems use a unique long pulse width that delivers energy to the skin over a relatively long period of time. This makes the pulses safer and more comfortable. You may experience a feeling similar to that of a rubber band being snapped on the skin, but most people do not report this sensation as painful.
You may experience temporary redness and a mild “sunburn”- like effect that may last a few hours to a few days.
The number of treatments varies depending on the person, the body part being treated, and how much of the hair is in the active phase of growth. Your treatment provider will be able to give you a better assessment after consultation.
